Добавлен 25 фев 2015
Spicy Exotics Dragon Fruit is your source for over 100 varieties of plant cuttings for sale. Dragon Fruit, Pitaya, or Pitahaya originated in Central America and now can be found in most tropical areas. In the USA these areas include Hawaii, California, and Florida. It's a subtropical vining cactus. So it loves lots of rain yet can tolerate dry weather. Most varieties are fast growing making easily adaptable to new environments.
As mentioned above, the plant is a vining cactus with fleshy three sided growth and spins along the edge of this growth. The plant creates huge night blooming flowers that are beautiful and fragrant. If the flower is pollinated it will create one of the most amazing fruits. Varieties can be either red, pink, green or yellow skin with white, pink, purple, or red flesh. The fruit sizes can vary ranging from 0.5 pounds to a whopping 3.0 pounds in size.

I cannot get my country roads to pollinate with voodoo child pollen. any tips?
How many can you store in each 50ft greenhouse
I did not see an American beauty. Interested to know what you think of that taste.
Fantastic information! Thank you. I’m new at being a dragon fruit grower. Started mine from seeds out of a store bought fruit. Excited to watch the progress
Thank you i was now going outside to cut my dragon fruit top
Great Idea. Way to recycle !!! Thank you. I'm going to try this out.
How many plants in a greenhouse?
Everything I needed to know in two minutes about this fruit❤ thank you
I’ve just started this great planting adventure😂I’ve always been a gardener so I say why not attempt growing The Dragons here in NY am a little worried because of my climate and this is why I am potting it to bring in and out of my house 😂in during the winter and out in the summer. I bought some cuttings that has been rooting for a while now will transplant over the weekend and I’ve also germinated some Sugar Dragons and whites from Ecuador. I have done an extensive amount of research. If succeeded with these I have then I will have a yard full once I relocate to a warmer area but for now NY is where I’ll give it a go.
Hope to see more vids like this soon! All my 14 varieties are from Spicy Exotics. You sent me Connie G last June. Just ordered Wild Thing yesterday. Can’t wait to get a taste! Thanks for the genetics 🧬
Does Rainfall have anytime to do with flower buds popping out
Thanks, your information is so helpful.
What is the size of your greenhouse? Thanks
How much does the polytunnel raise the minimum daily temperature without a heater? How quickly does it lose the heat it absorbed during the day?
How long do Palora Dragonfruit cuttings take to put out new growth
Is Palora Dragonfruit a vigorous grower
Happy I found your channel. Will tipping stop the growth on that branch from longer?
Great video! I'm here in Central Louisiana ( B. R. ) what size green house are you using. I am very happy to have come across your video. I got the DF that I have from Texas
When will you have the K1 cutting and other dragonfruit cuttings available back on your website spicy exotic?
The origin of this form Korea?
This is a mutation that can happen to any Dragon Fruit.
no palora?
Palora blooms later in the year
More energy will be transferred from the main branch (trunk) to the sub branches which will result in more fruit buds on the sub branches. When there are too many fruit buds on one branch then you should also remove some of the buds so that the remaining buds will have enough space and energy to grow big, sweet and juicy.

Have you changed anything over 4yrs ?? Have you looked into ceramic metal halide bulbs ? Use hi temp gasket maker on the porcelain to dish connection to prevent water dripping down to bulb 😉
Yes, everything is replaced. We now use electric oil heaters. Two per Greenhouse and our greenhouse is now twice the size.
BTW, when we had this setup, we tried several types of bulbs. Energy cost and bulb price had alot to do with what we choose at the time. 60 lamps going at once was a huge energy draw. Typically half of the bulbs would fail during the season so you can figure on a bulb cost.
And final thing, you ddn't bother to read them out loud just in case of some error or misunderstanding?.

Those labels in the background are way too small to be able to read by any viewers, almost as if nothing is there?.

Which is variety whose brix is above 20 or the size of fruits is near 1 kg
Weather conditions have alot to do with size and taste. Year after year it changes slightly. Nothing we grow yield those results, the only thing close is a hybrid we grow called Double D.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who has a few ugly looking ones 😂 they still grow the same, it’s amazing
At least the plant is healthy
Do you sell cutting ?
yes, spicyexotics.com/shop
Perfect timing, was just about to top some of my new vines and will no longer do it! Makes a lot of sense with all the growth you get anyway! Glad I found your page. Subscribing now!
thank you!
How much cost that greenhouse? I want to start a little proyect in spain
We no longer use this setup and have upgraded to a larger setup. 40' x 20'. They are $1000 US Dollars.
I am from Iran, because I live by the sea, I live in a humid and humid climate. 2 seasons of the year are almost very hot and the other two seasons are almost cold. My goal is to grow dragon fruit in a greenhouse. Currently, to gain experience on a small scale. I cultivate
hi sir, i have question, I want to start growing dragon fruit, the first step to start this work is to prepare the substrate, do you suggest planting the cuttings in the ground or in pots? What should the substrate be made of and what percentage should it be mixed with? Thankful
We start in pots and use cow manure for soil and PVC pipe to support. They have lots of other options. I recommend using what you have available to you. You can check out our website and youtube channel for additional information.
Thanks for arabic translation..
For this Greenhouse Only works for States Like Florida and California Hot climate States😊👍
I would say the gulf coast, as we are in Louisiana and works for us. It will have more challenges in colder locations, but making adjustments to the setup could overcome those challenges. Its a good cost affective solution to winterizing.
Great idea! Looks better than the green tape too
Thanks!
I actually used large zip lock bags. Works great and food safe unlike PVC. Great idea.
I'm learning so much from your videos. Thank you. I'm in SoCal as well and I love how lush your area is but when you mentioned the humidity ~ Yikes Wondering about your lights. Are they mostly to help you see what you're doing or do they simulate longer days for more blooming?
100% for vision
I enjoyed this video a lot. All I have are Physical Graffiti which I think is self sterile but somehow I have some fruits forming. I watched this video hoping to get some insight into which variety I should get for pollen to pollinate my PG?
As a general rule, PG is purple flesh. Stay away from Purple flesh pollen and use Red or White flesh fruit pollen. Most Pink flesh fruit pollen will work too.
Thanks so much. I'm thinking of getting some Sugar Dragon cuttings and using that when it fruits. Certainly is a lesson in patience.@@Spicyexotics
@@Spicyexoticsalarjwanii Why don t us the purple flech lik pollen ?
im really uncomfortable with the styrofoam, also, i think its gonna be too top heavy, and a strong weed will dropp the whole thing off, on the bottom of that pvc pipe id add some gravel or cement to balance things out
We have had styrofoam for over 15 years with amazing results. It works as an amazing insulator too. We mainly use it to make the containers weigh less, so we do not use gravel. We have 2 bags of soil in each container at minimum and that is plenty of balance.
Hello sirrr, Should I change the dragon fruit container soil every year ???
If you can that would be ideal. However in most cases it's not practical. The response also changes depending on what type of soil you are using.
Thank you sir❤

I have certain white flesh variety which has no stigma to pollinate. Fruits gets fall off early before maturity. Please advice me how to fix this problem .
We see a missing stigma from time to time, but not with every flower. If your growing that plant for fruit, you need to consider another variety.
@@Spicyexotics thank you 👍
If you tip it this year do you have to tip it again next year?
Yes
@@Spicyexotics Last year I tipped my plants and got a lot of fruit. This year I didn’t repeat the tipping and not even close to last year. I only have 7 plants and this year I’m not going to get much. Now wife knows about the tipping too👍
Saw what mirrors this fruit in a family of asian descent yard, I took a snippy snip of the piece that hung on the outsideS can’t wait to see/get fruits.
Are your paloras grafted on to a different rootstock?
We do not have a single graft. Everything we grow is true down to the root ball. This is to collect real data on how the variety performs year after year.
Thank you. Question: Why do most dragon fruit farmers set up their trellis above ground in a pot (vs. setting the trellis in the ground)?
We can speak for everyone, but the two factors we would consider is cost and geo location.
That makes a lot of sence ! :-)
Thanks for the awesome Tip!!!!
